IEP meetings can be challenging in many ways. As a parent, navigating special education is often an emotional process. Sitting in a meeting with a large group of people from the school team sharing successes, but also sharing challenges and a plan to address these challenges can be overwhelming. It is important to take time to focus on each child’s strengths and reflect on how far he/she has come… do not lose sight of the progress that has been made as you establish new goals and approach new milestones. While it often seems scary or defeating, the goals are established to open doors and new opportunities for each child. Embrace the possibilities!
