The social isolation and significant life changes during the pandemic have contributed to anxiety and depression in many teens. As parents, it is important to encourage healthy habits (proper nutrition, exercise), encourage children to spend time outdoors, offer opportunities to safely connect with friends
in-person (rather than through a screen), and encourage a consistent sleep schedule. Anxiety and depression can be challenging, and coping strategies may seem overwhelming at times. If you notice signs of anxiety or depression in your teen that are concerning, it is important to reach out to a mental health expert for assistance and/or services. Additionally, if the return to in-person learning has been challenging, and you find that anxiety or depression is making it difficult for your teen at school, you may be entitled to supports and/or services that are appropriate to your child’s needs.
