Annual IEP meetings are important. It is a time for the team to come together and discuss present levels, achievements, strengths, struggles, and goals. While some meetings are fairly standard, it is important to take the time necessary to make sure everyone on the team has a common understanding of the child’s progress, goals, and expectations.
Schools often schedule multiple meetings within a day, leaving a specific timeframe for each meeting.
Sometimes the time allotment does not allow for a comprehensive discussion, which can create confusion and more questions. If you find this happening frequently, there are some things you can do to request additional time with the team. We would be happy to assist, if you have any questions or need support in advocating for your child.
